Kindergarten In New York City, children enter kindergarten in the fall of the calendar year they turn five, and are guaranteed a kindergarten seat at a public school. If you have a child born in 2016, they will begin kindergarten in September 2021. Once your child starts kindergarten, they can remain at the same school until its final elementary grade.

- 3-K results for children born in 2018 were released in June.
- Pre-K offers for children born in 2017 were released in May.
- Kindergarten offers for children born in 2016 were released in April. G&T results for children of this age were made in July.
- Middle school offers were released in early May.
- High school offers were released in mid-May; testing Specialized High School results were also shared in late April.
- Waitlists for 3-K, pre-K, and kindergarten are open throughout the summer. Middle and high school waitlists closed in August.
